Engagement Retreat
Through the Rural Youth Project, Whitehead-Ross Education & Consulting have been able to work alongside Canolfan Maerdy Youth Club to engage with seven young people and take them on an overnight stay to the Urdd Centre, Llangrannog. While at the Urdd Centre the group participated in several activities, including, both high and low ropes challenges, quad biking, trampolining, swimming, dry slope skiing and a couple of hours at the beach along the beautiful Welsh coastline. All participants also completed a City & Guilds qualification on the importance of having a healthy lifestyle and keeping active. The main aim of the overnight stay is to engage with those living in a rural area and allow them to enhance skills such as, team building and communication skills. The fact that the trip is packed with activities means there is something for everyone who attends and is a great way for some to try activities they wouldn’t have had the chance to otherwise. The group from Canolfan Maerdy must be praised for their great attitude towards the trip and their willingness to have a go at all the activities.
Ian Whitehead-Ross, the Management Director, stated "The aim of the Retreats is to support young people in gaining qualifications, develop confidence and motivation and to stretch their horizons, challenge their thinking and develop their life skills. Ian was very encouraged by the young people’s visit to Llangrannog.
